The Knot in the Tree

Knot in the Tree

Withered oval face peers
From layered trunk of a tree
Streaked from spring rains
Shredded from summer suns
Shaggy from fall’s dry leaves
Rotted from winter’s snows,
She calls to me from the forest.

Writing on Wood

by Peg Hanna

I write on a door
Three feet from the floor
One leg on file drawers
One on three legs, not four

On its body sits a cup of tea
